I fully agree that democracy is absent in the U.S. Partly that is in its design. Our Constitution established a republic.

The upcoming U.S. Presidential campaign is a charade. Two doddering candidates both obviously unfit for office in all senses of fit: physical, mental, and moral.

That Joseph Biden faced no primary opposition in his seeking a second term when his limited faculties are so clear to see demonstrates how callow the word "democracy" has become.

Fitness is a major liability for our political class. There may be members who are fitter physically but their moral fitness is absent and their acumen is suspect.

Absolutely Superb !

Ed Dowd mentioned recently that the only thing keeping the Western economic system afloat is government spending. And reading Joel Kovel's "The End of Capitalism or the End of the World", as well as Michael Hudson's "The Destiny of Civilization," I have come to the conclusion that the seemingly rampant insanity behind all the events and situations that you mention is a last futile attempt by BigMoney to reign in the cancerous, exponential growth of Capital, to prevent economic collapse as long as possible. Excerpts of those two books are at my substack.
