Generally speaking, this for the US is, in deed, turning out to be, at best, another Vietnam, or Russia's Afghanistan type fiasco. At worst, it could turn out to be one of Hitler's or Napoleon's Russia; In other words, a nightmare which, at best will result in a deep quagmire and long-lasting setbacks, or one that results in the beginning of the end of the US empire--a truly befitting and poetically just role for Trump, if I may say.
There is one thing missing, however, from this analysis. It is a very stupid option, but stupid seems to verily be the norm, in our current times. How could it not be? Just look who is at the helm; it's pretty much packed with a "who's who" of stupid people. I am, of course, referring to the nuclear option.

It's very unlikely the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel was truly unexpected by Israeli intelligence, albeit it may have been deadlier than the hypothetical Israeli insiders had anticipated. Regardless of the increasingly self-compromised mostly-corporatized Western mainstream news-media (unlike genuinely independent news outlets) basically deeming it non-newsworthy, it's no real secret that Israeli officials had been warned in advance by at least one credible source.
Those Israeli lives lost may be considered by the increasingly immorally opportunistic prime minister, and ilk, as a good investment or return — i.e. the future mass cleansing of Palestinians from their land, followed by its annexation along with its coveted natural resources. The 10/7/23 assault conveniently enabled the Netanyahu government/IDF to justify or excuse extreme emergency war measures, then force through his/their ‘democratic reforms’ and do who-knows-what-more to Palestine.
With similarly great violence-filled hatred and mass-vengeance rage as that felt and implemented by Israelis following the 10/7 Hamas attack, the simplistic mentality and war-monger justification [“Israel has the right to defend itself”] was effectively utilized by the Cheney-Bush U.S. administration immediately after 9/11 — especially for the plainly unjustifiable American/British foreign invasion of oil-laden Iraq. [I refer to it as the Cheney-Bush administration, since it was mostly run by Cheney, with George W. essentially symbolically president.]
And, of course, if Iran militarily surrenders to Western forces thus big corporate interests, soon-enough afterwards it will also be compelled to surrender access to much of its vast fossil fuel reserves to American and British ‘energy’ companies. I have read somewhere that the festival attacked at the outset was originally scheduled to happen in Northern Israel but at short notice was moved close to Gaza. I would dearly love to have that information confirmed or clarified.

It's likely most of the casualties on Oct 7th were caused by missiles from IDF ground attack helicopters and shellfire and heavy machinegun fire from IDF tanks and APCs.
