Great article. Israel has deftly positioned itself as the victim for the last 80 years under cover of which it has relentlessly persecuted Palestinians. Let’s call it exactly what it is: stealing Palestine and killing off its inhabitants. If you read the definition of anti-Semitism, it is exactly what Israel has done to the Palestinians. The US, UK and much of Europe have been complicit in this travesty by turning a blind eye knowing exactly what has gone on.
The most frightful example of the philosophical justification ‘the end justifies the means’ is the pogrom, the primary implementers of which know they’re committing mass murder yet still genuinely perceive it all as part of an ultimately greater good. In this case, it's in Israel's material/land/natural-resource interests.
Yet, there are many Jews/Semites who are vocally against Israel's/IDF's onslaught against Palestinian non-combatants via blatant mass murder, systemic starvation and even ethnic cleansing. Yes the Genocide continues along the time line of the Great Big Beautiful Ben Gurion Canal project from the Red Sea to the Medditteranean Oil Gas Pollution burning wells. Each end replacing International Trade thru Suez between Europe&Asia causing the occasional war and famine thru fear manipulated by the powers at home & globally. Now climate change across Africa Sudan to Nigeria. Power contaminated once in power never want to lose. Become biblically catastrophically remembered. Family? Own or Others? Trumps Riviera like Beirut before Suez. Land routes where drones fly camera&bombs between Russia&Ukraine while Xie/Starmer reap rewards of relatively Free Peaceful Fair Kind World Trade. There are two reasons why Israel has sought to discredit and remove UNRWA from its territories and beyond almost since its creation.*
Firstly, UNRWA recognizes the descendants of those expelled from Palestine as also being refugees, entitled to call upon its support and services. Israel sees this as artificially extending the "refugee problem".
Secondly, the creation of unrwa followed unga resolution 194, which called for the right of refugees to return to their home country, which is also embedded in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The impeding of aid and support to the population of Gaza and the West Bank is a more recent reason.
* in its first years, unrwa also provided support to Jewish and Arab refugees within the territory control by the new Israeli state, and its creation was supported by Israel.
