I suspect that when any white westerner hears two Arabic (or maybe just brown) people on the street talking in Arabic their attennae immediately pick up "terrorism" as the first choice. It's how we've been trained - so successfully! Many of us can unhear, but our prejudices are ingrained. And I suspect that this prejudice is being very effectively exploited with this recent proposed measure. We are now hearing more Arabic spoken through our social media feeds, by women, by children and by men. I have been aware of so much perfidy and atrocity in my 78 years and have been appalled at what I have learned of the British colonial history but I never imagined that I would see western democratic nations defending a genocide as brutal as the last two years have shown it to be.
I can understand the lack of understanding of many ordinary citizens who are unaware of the perfidy under which Israel was created, that it was as a result of a Zionist lobby group putting pressure on the British government and that the partitioning of Palestine was justified by the deceit that the population was 95% Jewish and only 5% Palestinian, when in fact it was the reverse.
However, I cannot accept that politicians and other senior figures of status and influence, including those in the monarchy, are not aware. If I am right, then they are as complicit as all those: the USA, Britain, Germany and others, who fund and or arm Israel, defend it at the UN Security Council or label those who care for and support peace, justice, freedom and moral soundness - as criminals.
