Sadly true. I feel sick.

I don’t think it’s correct that it’s the “Jewish” lobby as many Jews are opposed to Israel’s policies and some even opposed to the concept of a Jewish state. It is the Zionist ideology that is the issue. Judaism is a religion thousands of years old where as Zionism is a political ideology barely a century old and created by atheists.

Thank you Jonathon - brilliant article.

Syria is being completely neutered by Israeli airstrikes. They'll leave nothing because "terrorists" groups continue in the Syrian area. Once Israel finishes bombing, they'll consolidate their base from southern Syria. Turkey will take the north and drive the Kurds toward Iraq. The U.S. will continue with their oil extraction in the NE. Very little of Syria will be left to HTS. The former Syria will simply be a failed state of smallish left-over portions. The Palestinians in Gaza will continue to be exterminated. Israel will sell land in Gaza to Israeli settlers and begin developing oil deposits off the Gazan coast. Once they've pacified the area under an iron fist, they'll complete a pipeline from Qatar. Israel will retain conquered land in Lebanon. The West Bank will soon experience what Gaza is experiencing...and nothing will happen to Israel. The world is cowardly and lacks moral principles. They simply fear the advanced and more sophisticated weaponry of Israel aka the U.S.A.

That (bomb them) "back to the Stone Age" sentiment originated with U.S.A.F. General Curtis LeMay in 1965. Well known as a far right nuclear nut; the model for Gen. Turgidson in the movie "Dr. Strangelove." Such admirable inspiration for military extremists everywhere.

Very good analysis.

Let's take a broader view. When oppressors are able to suppress all routes to resistance, it sometimes happens that the oppressed find innovative ways to resist. Can such a thing happen here? We might ask, what is available to Syrians, Lebanese, Iranians, etc that could seriously weaken Israel?

One thing that comes to mind is the poisoning of Israeli air and water systems with radioactive isotopes. Iran probably has such materials, and we can only wonder if that's the next tragedy to occur in these horrible times. But think about it. Israel has itself imposed the rule that a country is permitted genocide in the process of "defending itself." Would such a response conform to such a rule? I can't help but wonder how the Jews can be so victorious without the rest of the world having its say.

The "victory" of the Jews is not just the subjugation of the landscapes of Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and possibly Iran, it's also the subjugation of the western mindscapes that make all their military victories possible. Their constant attacks on our freedoms by the passage of more and more laws in their demands for "Jewish rights" are obvious examples, and of course we have the facts that they convinced western governments that genocide is the right, moral thing to do and that the second Adolf is a Jew.

The world is still waiting for a miracle that exceeds all capabilities

Such a miracle would require violence. Are you prepared for that? But I share the sentiment. Why should Jews be allowed to commit genocide? Their second one now after the Nakba. Why can't God do something to stop it?

USA/Israel perfectly played the 'divide et impera' strategy. Future historians will be full of appreciation. Note, that also Europe disintegrated on ethnic faultlines as desired after the USSR collapse. Probably the concept is also employed at the Western populations themselves.

Jonathan Cook is one of those delightful elements who bring some glaring sunshine onto the evil doings of the West, which are now close to home, as anything far away has been done already.

I find the speed with which the bulletin is read makes proper understanding almost impossible. I can't remember whether this torrent is necessary but fewer words and a little more measured a delivery would help.

A very depressing bulletin and analysis and I'm sad that Israel is so much in the US's pocket - it's not exactly 'How to make friends and influence people' but it seems to be how the US wants it and will leave Israel permanently a pariah, terrorist state.

Correction: US is so much in Israel’s pocket

Expand full comment

Agreed, but to be even more precise, the US is in the pocket of Judaism via the US Jewish Lobby. That lobby consists of the US Jewish leaders of nearly 400 US Jewish organizations, funded to the level of billions of dollars. Here's a list, the "smoking gun" that shows us who the perpetrators are:

A depressing report. I'm sad for Syria. President Al-Assad never had a chance to "inherit" the family dominance of Syria and make moves to modernize and moderate governance. The goddammed demented Colonial Zionists and their obedient servant USA made sure of that. President Al-Assad had his hands tied from Day One...and I cannot help but be disappointed that the endlessly superlative Mr. Cook, who termed President Al-Assad "dictator" early on in this piece, was unable or unwilling to take on the "context" that I always find to be paramount to any understanding of, in this case, the Syrian tragedy orchestrated by the Colonial Zionist vermin.

The lights are dimming for Palestine and Iran.... I'm sad.

We are experiencing the wrath of Judaism, as vile as was the wrath Jews themselves received from their own God, as described in their sacred texts. In fact, this is the second time Jews have conquered the holy lands. The first was at the behest of their God to enter the land of Canaan and slaughter indigenous peoples. They are doing it now for a second time. And we can't do anything about it.

"All of this leaves Israel in a strong position to entrench its gains and widen its regional ambitions."

Julani actually did spend time at Guantanamo Bay for killing American troops in Iraq. But now the US is going to forgive him for doing that because he’s now our useful puppet.

American troops have spent the last decade training the terrorists who killed their friends. How they could do that is beyond me.

Since a physical Gaza is wrecked but not the determination of the Palestinian people for freedom and justice, which has intensified, why would anyone think that the Israelis could control Syria and ensure the people remain complicit? It makes no sense. Perhaps briefly, in the midst of chaos, but not longterm and Israel simply does not have the soldiers to maintain occupation of Palestine as well as slabs of Syria and Lebanon.

If Israelis are not out killing they are working and if they are killing they are not working and the economy is in ruins.

And if the US cannot control destroyed Iraq, how on earth can Israel, even with US help, control destroyed Syria? If one thing unites Syrians of all persuasions, Palestinians, Lebanese and Turks it is hatred of Shitrael. That is a powerful glue. And it is a given that the Jordanians know they are also in the gunsights as are the Iranians. If the Saudis and Emirates and others cannot work out the plan and understand they are on the list for shitrael domination then they will be in trouble.
