New subscriber: just hope Putin is going off the reservation...Herr Schwab once famously bragged that Putin was one of his young globalist leaders....I voted for Trump and now realize he's just playing a part....I want to think Putin is sincere and is not doing the bidding of the WEF crowd

Spot on take. I was horrified and shocked when Russia moved in. I was superficially familiar w/ the border/civil war crises in eastern Uk, but basically didn't know much more than being able to find it on a map.

And thus, felt oh so well informed.

When someone does something that surprises me, I've come to the process of asking 'why?' right after saying WTF?

I won't pretend to say I've done historical research. I'm too busy & lazy to get elbows deep into something happening on the other side of the world. And besides, I pay people to do that digging...

So I went to Dore, Mate, Norton, Johnstone, Hedges, Taibbi, Halper, Blumenthal and such. Because I TRUST them. They do the digging and come up w/ some pertinent facts I'm not going to retype here (I said I was lazy, remember? lol)

I want to make one observation:

MSM is harping about refusing to appease this monster the way Chamberlain did over 80 years ago before WW2.

Well that's a weak as water argument. I'm 63, and in 1967/68 during the height of the Vietnam protest era nobody harkened back to events of the Civil War (1860's ish) as a valid framework to apply to those current events.

Nah...I go to more recent history. Like twenty years ago. When the leadership of the world piled on to someone described as a thug. Together, the elite of all nations, media, politics and business drew together to beat the war drums.

On wrong, terribly, tragically wrong assessments.

The media's lookin' for clicks, the politicians are lookin' for votes and business is looking for a deep feed from the bottomless trough that is the US Gov't spending.

Just like in 2003.

THAT'S the proper historical framework.

While Putin's actions are deplorable, I have been extremely frustrated by the typically simplistic, "Us good cowboy in white hat, them bad!" narrative that the MSM is all to eager to be complicit in spreading.

I'm not a political expert. So if little old me can dig up some background on the internet, it can't be beyond the wit of any journalist worth their salt to bloody well report based on the actual geopolitical history of the region with some effing nuance.

Thank you for this article, Jonathan.

A much needed piece of writing

I had imagined that a public exposed to the inquiry and debacle of the Iraq War would be less suggestible than what they are, but what I've observed is the impressive effectiveness of the mainstream here to whip up hysteria and even the more intelligent folk are digging this tabloid and broadsheet non-analysis. It's appalling. I have an article here you might wish to read: https://niccolo.substack.com/p/fuck-it-russias-final-break-with?utm_source=url

A breath of fresh air. The most penetrating analysis of this crisis I've seen so far, better than the thinly disguised drivel at "alternative" sites like Breaking Points that only pays lip service to the underlying issues. Thanks, Jonathan. Gonna make another contribution.
