The massive demonstrations world wide for an end to the carnage or in straight out support of Palestinians shows the masses are on the side of justice, and the political and media elites of all Western countries are on the side of neo-fascism.

I'll ask you again, what is your solution to this conflict (Gaza, and perhaps the entire mess)? I have yet to read anything from you that suggests what a permanent solution is. I suspect, you like so many critics on both sides of this conflict, have none. If you have written one in your blog, please send me the link. Make sure all your readers have access to it as well. I would love to have it for my Jewish discussion group here in Canada, every one of whom has expressed sympathy for the plight of the Gazans but of course want Hamas destroyed if possible, just don't know how it can be done without wreaking havoc on Gazans if Hamas won't surrender.

My God: this could not have been composed and presented with any better "clarity." My endless kudos to Jonathan Cook.

Viva Falasteen!

Put paid -- finally, irrevocably, to the *colonial" West, the scourge of decent humanity and all of our planet's resources for all too many centuries. Zionism has exploited the worst instincts and activities of each appearance of that *colonial* demon and fashioned it/them into the worst of all. Zionism must be expunged!

(A forlorn hope? -- Cannot MPs Bristow and McDonald link arms and mobilize, with passion and propriety on their side, the British citizenry into an unrelenting force for good vs. evil?)

Thank you, Mr. Cook, for your stellar reporting on Israel/Palestine/Gaza. It is clear that the "West" is being ruled by murderous fascists and sociopaths. These people should be immediately removed from office. They are dangerous. We need another Nuremberg tribunal to try them for crimes against humanity.

The support of this horror by our "leaders" is as disturbing as it is revealing. Follow the energy. The cynic in me wonders if there's oil under Gaza? Or is this a pretence to grab, er, "protect" the last oil in the middle east before the Sheiks start selling to the BRICS for Yuan? Without the petro$, the funny money empire of WesternCiv retreats up it's own sphincter, leaving unpaid bar bills fluttering in the breeze.

Our rulers are also likely looking at Gaza as an experimental prototype for dealing with their own disenfranchised and rebellious populations.

It is heartening to see real Jews protesting to stop Israel weaponising their religion:

Powerful and wise words Jonathan. And the pols and their media shrills keep referring to the “war”. It’s a f$$$$$h Genocidal invasion.

He is. It’s tragic. But he is.

Its just reprehensible and just as bad in Australia where six of the past past seven PM's have signed a statement voicing total support for Israel. Our government's Labor party thankfully have had a few voices who have spoken up in support of a ceasefire and peaceful resolution. Ultimately the Israeli government listens to no one including the USA and will continue this holocaust on the Palestinians until the whole Gaza strip is destroyed. This shameful support from pretty much all western governments will forever be a stain on their legacy and history.

I have e-mailed my (Labour) MP to register my disgust.

Thank you for your clarity. I would refer you to the comments of John Finucine, a Belfast MO in the British Parliament, who made a very fortnight speech in Belfast a couple of days ago. It’s available on YouTube.. I would also point out that the Dublin government passed a motion calling for a ceasefire. Comments by Irish TD, People Before Profit, are also available on YouTube.

The title of this article is simple enough. If gov't were driven by morality, we could debate whether it's "right" to kill children vs. whether it's "right" to defend one's country disproportionately; we could ask for a more humane war (?).

However, gov't isn't driven by morality. "The Lobby", a documentary series (avail on Youtube for now) exposes so clearly that politicians are captives of the lobbying works of the Israel foreign ministry.

As ever, right on the button Jonathan, a light in the darkness, more power to you.

The Western governments have shown us how morally bankrupt they are.

Complicit in ethnic cleansing ,apartheid and colonisation hiding behind "Israel has a right to defend itself" is nothing more than a show of lickspittles and cowards in,and out,of government.
