I cannot complain about a lack of experience in socially unstable, crisis-ridden societies and war situations. For many years I was under the illusion that photos of these tragedies could help put an end to this human madness and bring about a return to sanity. This illusion has been shattered and I am therefore very grateful to you, Jon, for writing down the essences and excesses of this war of extermination and displacement for anyone who is willing to read. Of course, it is infuriating when the crimes of Auschwitz are used in an Orwellian manner as a protective claim.
In the end, the question remains: when will the ICJ manage to take action to prevent something really bad from happening? No ethnic group will ever forget such crimes and they can only be forgiven if a court ensures that they are dealt with properly.
The mainstream media in the US, UK and elsewhere regularly claim that upwards of 1400 Israelis were killed by Hamas "terrorists" on 7 October. (I believe Israeli sources now put the total at 1159.) Rather than arguing that not all of them were killed by Hamas, as Max Blumenthal, Al Jazeera and others persist in doing, it would be useful to establish, so far as possible, how many Israelis, or even better Israeli civilians, were definitely killed by Hamas. It would then be possible to refer to 7 October as "the day when Hamas militants killed [25?, 50?, 100?] Israeli civilians" and challenge critics to dispute the number. Mark Regev and other Israeli apologists invariably dispute the number of Palestinians killed by Israel in Gaza. Their claims should also be forcefully challenged.

I've been making comments asking those lines for years and have always gotten some along replies: “You believe what Hamas tells you?” among the milder ones. I was only pointing out their casualty figures which have repeatedly been verified by independent agencies, but at least that resulted in an honest exchange of views without rancour. Most of us don't read the Israeli press, especially not if it's in Hebrew. The coverage has been vile, calling for the radiation of the Palestinians. I can't say I was surprised, though I was surprised at the hate expressed in such articles and leaders. Israel has had more critical resolutions passed against them in the UN and ignore every one. It's beyond me how fawning our responder has been. They deserve to be sanctioned: stop arms sales to Israel. I'm flabergsdted at our uncritical replied.
