A limited nuclear war is possible and cannot be ruled out. Once the initial devastation is broadcast there may be time for a rethink and declare a ceasfire. Should Russian submarines be close to the US coastline, Langley may decide on a truce and end it's quest for global military domination.
Putin will be reluctant to rely on a signed piece of paper following any negotiations. The US have a habit of ignoring such documents. I believe his aim is to reach the border with Poland.
It was Germany that pushed for NATO's eastward expansion at the NATO meeting in Travemünde in 1993. German defense minister Volker Rühe wanted Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary to join NATO, which the Americans rejected. It took the Germans 6 years to get the Americans to agree to the 3 nations joining NATO. Serving this purpose the Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe rejected UN collective security in 1994, favoring collective self - defense instead. All that in spite of the fact that there are clear indications that both China and Russia, as well as Ukraine, would prefer a system of genuine collective security within the framework of the United Nations. In March 2022 the official website of the Ukrainian President featured the headline "Ukraine must have a collective security agreement with all its neighbours with the participation of the world's leading powers," quoting Volodymyr Zelenskyy: "These will be guarantees not only for Ukraine ... for Russia as well." Zelenskyy seemed to be echoing Putin who had frequently berated the West for being unwilling to build “a modern, non-bloc collective security system” with Russia.
The US, NATO and Zelensky clearly are willing to fight to the last Ukrainian citizen and building disappear under the pile of rubble that will be Ukraine after the Russian offensive this spring. It is clear, and has been since early last year that Putin views Ukraine as a Russian satrap, as it has been for most of it's existence. And notwithstanding the deplorable performance during the first part of the war, Russia will now do to Ukraine what it did in WWII once it finally got its mojo back ie rolled over its enemy. The West had no conceivable security interest in Ukraine or encouraging Zelensky to oppose Putin. Ukraine was a corrupt, quasi democracy unlikely to ever become anything resembling most NATO countries. Now the west is stripping itself of much of its military hardware in a losing cause. No doubt Zelensky expects the west to rebuild whatever is left of his country, if anything, when this war ends. Another terrible decision by the US and its allies. Billions of dollars and military hardware down the drain. Vietnam, Afganistan, Iraq, Libya just one lost cause after another. The bravery of the Ukrainians is magnificent, just as was Custers. Likely the same result. Neither should have undertaken what they did.
I find the position of European politician's with their spineless acquiescence to Washington quite inexplicable never mund that the EU arose out of the very same sort of fascist regime that they are now supporting. johnbernard1730@gmail.com st barking.
"Meanwhile, Europe’s biggest source of energy supplies, from Russia, has been cut off - quite literally in the case of mysterious explosions that blew up the Russian pipelines supplying gas to Germany."
Nothing mysterious about it. The US & UK blew up the pipeline. That US officials declared Russia blew up its own pipeline only shows how deeply gullible they take US citizens to be over how Russia is crazy enough to even sabotage itself, even when nothing sane is achieved by such an insane act. The US gloated over the pipeline's destruction because they did it. With UK's help.
I heard a report that India was buying Russian crude for 70% below market value, refining it then selling the finished product to Europe. Apparently Turkeiye is doing the same with LNG.
Thanks for clarifying! I wasn't sure if it was tongue in cheek or not. You've given one of the best analyses I've seen yet of this horrific situation that could well lead to The End of Everything. And most USAns seem blithely indifferent to it all. No one anywhere I go even seems to know we're at war with Russia--or gives a damn if they're told. Sleepwalking to the Apocalypse.
What a bunch of hateful vile humans the US, the supposed Land of the Free has turn out to be. Many would say it never was anything else, from the white European settlers and their treatment of the indigenous Indians to the slavery errs, to shooting down anyone that may have challenged their White Supremacist World view. China and India and much of Africa know they will at some stage be next in line- don’t expect them to sit and wait.
The misuse of The Sunk Cost Fallacy is entirely intentional.
The fact that NATO, the US and its vassals all insist on the most hysterical and over the top rhetoric at all times only makes WWIII that much more likely.
And of course, Poland and the Baltic satrapies are all positively itching for an open outbreak of war.
But why? Poland and the Baltic satrapies elites would be the first to get roasted in a non-nuclear exchange... why they are aiming at self-immolation? what's the gain? I mean, Ukraine situation is in front of everyone eyes... if that's winning, you may want to lose, IMPO... Once Russia has been pushed over the edge - and it has - additionally there is no winning, because winning would mean nuclear annihilation for everyone; Unless they still think they can get regime change in the Russian Federation and surrendering, but that is a "hitler in the bunker" fantasy, at this point, to be honest; it wasn't completely insane to plan about it 12 months ago, when a potential economic collapse could be possible, but is not sane now, when China, India, Brazil, South America and Africa haven't bought into it... So what is their gammon in the game?

A good question. I know the Polish mentality well (I speak about half Polish at home), and I assume that the mentality of the Baltic states is similar.
Many Poles would gladly slit their own children's throats, if that was what it took to spite Russia, especially if an American egged them on. One could say that it is pure hate, but it isn't, it's also the desperate Polish craving for attention and approval from the West, especially from the United States.
For those who claim my sentence was hyperbole, just about every Polish family has members who were murdered in cold blood by Ukrainian nationalists in 1943-44. Still, the Polish governments (and a lot of Poles themselves) now praise and lionize the literal and ideological descendants of the same people who murdered their grandparents.
Part of this is because Poland derives its value to the West from stirring up Russia, so that it can demonstrate its unswerving fealty. Take away Russia, and Poland would no longer be America's Special Friend, but a rather yappy backwater satrapy of no particular importance, sort of like Colombia with delusions of grandeur, but no cocaine.
I agree. Listening to Polish radio 18 months/2 years ago, they were begging the yanks to station several hundred of their troops in Poland. Unfortunately, Poland is an international novice, they are completely unaware that their beloved new friend is a wolf in sheeps clothing that has occupied Western Europe since 1945 and Eastern Europe since 1991.
I see. I can understand the historical reasons behind trying to counterbalance German and Russian influence (and in the past aggression, no doubt) with american now, and british before, support... but self-immolation sems completely irrational and counterproductive to me... and it would be not the first time in history that, after self-immolating, they would get stabbed in the back by their supposed protectors! So, methink, we are in the "abusive relation\stockholm syndrome" psychological national disease here...
There is some truth to that. I also see it in tones of a spurned lover who has convinced herself that some grandiose and pointless self-sacrifice will show the object of her affections how much she really loves him.
Like something out of Fatal Attractions. The irony is that America hardly thinks about Poland at all. And America takes Poland for granted when it does.

Who put this folly together? No one trying to stop it.

Excellent and timely analysis.
I suspect it’s a forlorn hope but I wish the people of the world could find a way to stand up and just say No.
Sorry bit of gobbledetgook about but I think you'll get the gist 🤣

It was meant tongue in cheek. As I hoped the following sentence conveyed. :)
And it is now ‘confirmed’ by Seymour Hersh:

Honestly, I don't think that the average Pole would care if they got nuked, as long as an American patted them on the head and called them a good dog.
