Who put this folly together? No one trying to stop it.

A limited nuclear war is possible and cannot be ruled out. Once the initial devastation is broadcast there may be time for a rethink and declare a ceasfire. Should Russian submarines be close to the US coastline, Langley may decide on a truce and end it's quest for global military domination.

Putin will be reluctant to rely on a signed piece of paper following any negotiations. The US have a habit of ignoring such documents. I believe his aim is to reach the border with Poland.

It was Germany that pushed for NATO's eastward expansion at the NATO meeting in Travemünde in 1993. German defense minister Volker Rühe wanted Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary to join NATO, which the Americans rejected. It took the Germans 6 years to get the Americans to agree to the 3 nations joining NATO. Serving this purpose the Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe rejected UN collective security in 1994, favoring collective self - defense instead. All that in spite of the fact that there are clear indications that both China and Russia, as well as Ukraine, would prefer a system of genuine collective security within the framework of the United Nations. In March 2022 the official website of the Ukrainian President featured the headline "Ukraine must have a collective security agreement with all its neighbours with the participation of the world's leading powers," quoting Volodymyr Zelenskyy: "These will be guarantees not only for Ukraine ...  for Russia as well." Zelenskyy seemed to be echoing Putin who had frequently berated the West for being unwilling to build “a modern, non-bloc collective security system” with Russia.

The US, NATO and Zelensky clearly are willing to fight to the last Ukrainian citizen and building disappear under the pile of rubble that will be Ukraine after the Russian offensive this spring. It is clear, and has been since early last year that Putin views Ukraine as a Russian satrap, as it has been for most of it's existence. And notwithstanding the deplorable performance during the first part of the war, Russia will now do to Ukraine what it did in WWII once it finally got its mojo back ie rolled over its enemy. The West had no conceivable security interest in Ukraine or encouraging Zelensky to oppose Putin. Ukraine was a corrupt, quasi democracy unlikely to ever become anything resembling most NATO countries. Now the west is stripping itself of much of its military hardware in a losing cause. No doubt Zelensky expects the west to rebuild whatever is left of his country, if anything, when this war ends. Another terrible decision by the US and its allies. Billions of dollars and military hardware down the drain. Vietnam, Afganistan, Iraq, Libya just one lost cause after another. The bravery of the Ukrainians is magnificent, just as was Custers. Likely the same result. Neither should have undertaken what they did.

Excellent and timely analysis.

I suspect it’s a forlorn hope but I wish the people of the world could find a way to stand up and just say No.

I find the position of European politician's with their spineless acquiescence to Washington quite inexplicable never mund that the EU arose out of the very same sort of fascist regime that they are now supporting. johnbernard1730@gmail.com st barking.

Great analysis, except this bit:

"Meanwhile, Europe’s biggest source of energy supplies, from Russia, has been cut off - quite literally in the case of mysterious explosions that blew up the Russian pipelines supplying gas to Germany."

Nothing mysterious about it. The US & UK blew up the pipeline. That US officials declared Russia blew up its own pipeline only shows how deeply gullible they take US citizens to be over how Russia is crazy enough to even sabotage itself, even when nothing sane is achieved by such an insane act. The US gloated over the pipeline's destruction because they did it. With UK's help.

What a bunch of hateful vile humans the US, the supposed Land of the Free has turn out to be. Many would say it never was anything else, from the white European settlers and their treatment of the indigenous Indians to the slavery errs, to shooting down anyone that may have challenged their White Supremacist World view. China and India and much of Africa know they will at some stage be next in line- don’t expect them to sit and wait.

The misuse of The Sunk Cost Fallacy is entirely intentional.

The fact that NATO, the US and its vassals all insist on the most hysterical and over the top rhetoric at all times only makes WWIII that much more likely.

And of course, Poland and the Baltic satrapies are all positively itching for an open outbreak of war.
